There is a huge trend going on in beauty at the moment. It's all about the beauty oils! Hundreds of them have launched in the "Natural" category alone. It's almost dizzying.
Oil used to be so taboo for so many years because it was comedogenic, meaning causes comedones or breakouts. Generally oils that were used in beauty products were comprised of mineral oil, which means you might as well be putting gasoline on your face. Mineral oil is a by-product of petroleum!
Fast forward to the present, Consumers are more educated than ever about the ingredients in their products (especially with the rise of breast cancer and other health concerns). This phenomenon is a result of information made easily available upon the internet.
While oils and their ingredients change and and improve, physics and the chemistry in our bodies stay the same. Oil repels water. If you don't already have water or moisture in the skin, oil is not going to add moisture to the skin.
What oil does to the skin is act as a sealant. It waterproofs the body once applied.
The best way to use beauty oils is to shower in water that is not too hot. Hot water will pull moisture from the body. After your warm shower, gently pat the skin dry with a towel and immediately add your beauty oil.
A more economic way to add moisture to the body is to apply coconut oil to the body while still mildly damp in the shower! If you'd like to enhance your sensory experience with your coconut oil, add a few drops of pure essential oils! Yum! Coconut contains rich essential fatty acids (essential goodies for the cells). Do yourself a favor and eat a spoon of it a day as well. The car needs its oil to run well.
Remember at the end of the day oil either seals in moisture or prevents moisture from getting into the skin. Emulsions are truly a way to deepen hydration into the skin and you can read more about emulsions at Wikipedia HERE.
WARNING to you young folk out there: bacteria that causes acne LOVES oil. Dry skin and oil is the perfect combination to not only block pores, but invites bacteria to come enjoy a big gourmet feast!
