PSORIASIS AND ECZEMA

by mary schook

The scaly skin conditions psoriasis and eczema are usually grouped together. Primarily they both reflect stress and immune/nervous system issues. They also reflect the declining quality of our diets in both enough essential fats and an accumulation of too many pesticides and hormones that the body can't handle. You can read more about the differences between the two skin conditions online here.

5% of the time if one has either psoriasis or eczema they also have rheumatoid arthritis. This makes it evident that the body is too acidic. Acid means inflammation. The goal is to reduce inflammation through organic, alkaline whole foods which can be found on this list. For some of my clients it's difficult for them to find alkaline foods on the go so they use alkaline drops in their beverages. FYI it also helps to prevent hangovers!

Because eczema and psoriasis is a sign of an immune system issue light to moderate sun and saltwater is highly recommended. The vitamin D from the sun automatically strengthens the immune system and the salt water helps to disinfect and mineralize the lesions as well as the body. This is why it is also an effective treatment for acne.

Another method I learned about years ago was taking turmeric from Dr. Weil. Turmeric is a spice commonly found in curry and mustard. I used to drink Dr. Wiel's turmeric for my brain, but then I found New Chapter's full spectrum Turmeric, which is a little more accessible for my needs. Clients of mine who have eczema or psoriasis who take turmeric usually see an immediate calming of their skin. They usually take higher doses when they are under stress.

Doctors will prescribe cortisone/steroid creams to try to calm the lesions, but to me this method produces very slow results. This is why I like a product that has been on the market for a while called Psorent, which is steroid free. I have other topical tricks up my sleeve, but you'll have to ask me when you see me!

Finally there are many reports about how the liver function is tied to eczema. The fact is that the liver is the organ that purifies the blood. Milk thistle is the most ancient and popular method of cleansing of the liver. Milk thistle is also very anti-aging because it keeps the rest of the body's functions running in tip top shape! My favorite brand milk thistle is maximum milk thistle.

The items I listed above are some of the things I have seen really work for people that you won't find in a lot of the popular writings about these painful skin conditions. Turmeric especially seems to be a big secret weapon. This is not medical advice and before taking any supplements or using any OTC products you should consult with your doctor or general practitioner.
