I am the last person to ever be lecturing about sleep. I have basically destroyed my thyroid from working all hours of the day and night trying to make sure you get the best possible treatments and technology in the world. The good news is I have all the tools to reverse the damage when I have the chance.
WHY AM I BRINGING UP SLEEP?
I bring up sleep because I was working on a client last week with the 'Platinum Lift' when all of the sudden she really responded to the 'sleep frequency'. The skin just really tightened up with the sleep frequency more than any other signature electrical waveform. This usually means that the client is not getting enough sleep and the cells are not able to repair on their own.
I asked her if she slept and she said she gets 7-8 hours a sleep a night. I then realized she must be getting sleep in different time zones, which means her body was out of rhythm. The body has a 24 hour internal clock called the Circadian Rhythm. She admitted she just got back from Japan for work. She was in another time zone a few days prior to that. Generally she never gets sleep in a consistent time zone because of her work. That is definitely going to be an issue for her later on, and her cells are telling me now that it's a problem for her now even at her young age.
CORPORATIONS EVEN HAVE RULES ABOUT NIGHT SHIFTS
Talking about sleep and circadian rhythms is a very complex discussion, but through my talks with sleep experts they have all said the most important hours to get sleep is between 11pm and 2am. In fact, Apple computers is so aware of this fact that they only allow their employees to do the night shift a maximum of two years at a time! I found this out while taking my crashed computer in to the 24 hour Apple store at 3am in New York City! There is a higher risk of cancer for people who work at night versus the daytime. The body does not produce melatonin unless it is in complete darkness. That melatonin is a tumor suppressor. Sounds like Steve Jobs might have figured out a few facts through his own cancer journey.
HOW TO BEST SLEEP?
The moral of the story for us all is to sleep in complete darkness between the hours of 11pm and 2am in your normal time zone. If your cells are tired, then you don't expect your skin to look bright and bouncy. It doesn't work that way. You need more sleep than 11-2, but those are the most important repair/hormone release hours.
WATCH OUT FOR
Estee Lauder and Circadia are two companies to pay attention to. They have been really doing a lot of research towards making products that help the body promote repair that happens during the circadian rhythms. The Lauder Night Repair serum
