Today was another proud day for me. When I told one of my customers I was doing a post about how to get glowing skin she responded "well of course it comes from within". She is SO correct. It heartens me to know that my customers listen and put into practice the anti-aging way of life and that these posts are more for readers who are not my direct customers or the very few customers who choose not to listen.
1. COLD-PRESSED OMEGAS- For some reason the press has the entire world thinking there is one omega- omega 3. In my studies it's actually the omegas 5 and 7 that have the biggest impact on skin. How do I know this? A brand called Nude used to carry THE BEST cold pressed vegetable-sourced omegas. Within 2 weeks clients would return to my office with the creamiest, dreamiest skin. It literally did all of my work for me! Most of them already took cold-pressed omega 3,6,9, but when you add that 5 and 7, BOY! I have pleaded with Nude over the years, but alas they wanted to launch their super serum instead of taking the time to educate the public that ESSENTIAL FATS ARE THE OIL THAT KEEPS THE CAR RUNNING. A car needs fuel, but without the oil the motor burns up! We are no different in that regard.
2. USE CREAM-BASED MAKEUP- Powder makeup products are guaranteed to highlight every wrinkle if you have dry skin. Dewy skin is young skin. Unless you're naturally oily, stick with makeup that is cream-based. One personal example I put into practice is applying my lipstick to my lips and cheeks like my mother used to do when I was a kid. It was frugal meets function back then. P.S. mineral powders tend to be the worst as the particles tend to be larger and accentuate every pore and wrinkle more than regular powders!
3. STAY AWAY FROM HEAT- Heat causes inflammation, aggravates rosacea, encourages collagen to break down AND can cause dehydration after 15 minutes in a steam room or hot shower. It also strips the outer layer of skin called the epidermis causing you to lose natural oils and leaving you prone to adult breakouts!!!
4. LIVING LUMINIZER- This is actually not a product plug. I have known Rosmarie Swift and watched her line, RMS beauty grow up through the years. Living Luminizer is probably one of the most essential certified organic face highlighters (that is not glittery) that belongs in your glow/anti-aging arsenal. Add it to the top of the cheek bones, on your eyelids and brow bones or even the entire face. It is a sheer, luminous glow for all skin colors and especially dry skin types! No top makeup artist has a kit without one!
5. DITCH THE NIGHT TIME MOISTURIZER- Your body has a mechanism that gauges when you need moisture. In fact, many people with oily skin have oily skin because they are dehydrated and the body sends oil to the surface (acid mantle) to protect the body from bacteria/foreign invaders. They are lucky in many ways, but as we age the oil begins to dry up.
When we apply moisturizer at night our body stops producing its own moisture. This is a very profound statement. EVEN the UK Daily Mail did an article on how moisturizer can weaken our skin! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2245591/Is-moisturiser-drying-skin-It-sounds-crazy-experts-believe-skin-lotions-harm-good.html
If you MUST apply a moisturizer try a non-comedogenic beauty oil to seal moisture in that your body already supplies. Applying a beauty oil or better yet coconut oil right after showering is the most ideal option as moisture is present and gets trapped in with the oil.
Isn't it nice to know nature thought of everything and you could be spending a LOT less money on products you don't need?
