This week I'm dedicating my Tuesday Tip to Tanya. Let's just say she put some perspective on what you guys might benefit from in my posts.
HOW DO MOST PEOPLE COVER THEIR ACNE?
When it comes to Acne one of the first things that people try to do is take some sort of foundation or cover up and a sponge to conceal the pimples/acne. This step alone is wrong in SO many ways. Continue to read along to understand why.
There is a video that went viral on youtube (9,000,000+ hits) where a young model showed how she was able to transform her skin with LAYERS of primers, foundations, concealers, and powders. She did a very nice job covering her severely oily and acneic skin, but her battle is going to be endless because she is compounding the problem each and every day she makes up her face.
WHAT SHE DID RIGHT
The YouTuber created a barrier between her and her makeup with a primer. While primers can damage the skin, the particle sizes are usually too large to clog it or allow the foundations that go on top of it to clog it.
The brave model also used products and tools that don't require her to dip back into her container. She used her clean hands or loose powders. Most acne is spread by contamination. What this means is she did not take her brush, touch her infected skin with the brush, and then put the brush back into a container where she would infect the makeup she would use at a later time. Hopefully she washes her brush EACH and EVERY time she uses it!
WHY COVERING ACNE WITH FOUNDATION IS WRONG
A huge percentage of the foundations out there are packed with ingredients that will CAUSE acne. The term for a product that causes pimples is Comedogenic. If you are prone to acne look for the label to say non-comodogenic.
On saavyskin.com the bloggers put together an awesome list of ingredients that are proven to cause acne.
Check out the ingredients HERE. THE BEST WAY TO COVER ACNE
THE very BEST way to cover up acne is actually through airbrush makeup. Airbrush makeup has come a long way over the decades. Companies such as Temptu and Uslu Airlines have created personal airbrush kits that are affordable and super easy to learn and use.
Airbrush makeup creates a flawless dot matrix to camouflage inflamed acne and acne scars. It allows the skin to breathe. Airbrush makeup sits on top of the skin instead of going into the pores. If you're someone like me who sweats a lot ANYTHING on top of the skin makes it feel suffocated and you just end up sweating and breaking out even more!
ACNE MAKEUP IN SIX BASIC STEPS:
1. Apply a silicone-free primer or moisturizer as a barrier and to even the skin's surface.
2. Apply concealer or foundation around the eyes (Airbrush makeup can make the skin appear older on certain skin).
3. Begin to spray the entire face and neck with the Airbrush.
4. Bring the Airbrush closer to areas that need more coverage.
5. Blot the skin with a tissue in case there is any buildup or extra makeup if you have face fuzz.
6. Apply the rest of your makeup (Mascara, Brows, Cheeks, and Lips) and Voila!
The other reason I really like airbrush makeup is that it's super quick. If you buy the Temptu version there's no cleanup either!!!
Hope you guys enjoyed this format better. I love to get your feedback!!
